The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has introduced a new operational strategy to strengthen preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The strategy includes a real-time monitoring system to track the readiness of INEC offices across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, announced this at a two-day Strategic Operational Workshop for the commission’s Administrative Secretaries in Lagos.

A key part of the strategy is the Administrative Secretary Master Operational Tracker Template, which will provide real-time updates on election preparations, including the distribution of materials and training of personnel.

Amupitan urged state-level officials to maintain neutrality and discipline, while using lessons from recent off-cycle elections to improve preparations for the 2027 polls.

The commission will focus on voter registration and PVC distribution, election logistics, electoral technology, recruitment and training of ad-hoc personnel, as well as financial and procurement compliance.

INEC said the final register of voters is expected to be published on January 11, 2027, ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16.

Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
