Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has defended the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, over his recent comments on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Lawal accused some of El-Rufai’s supporters of misrepresenting Musa’s remarks in an attempt to create tension in Kaduna State.

Musa had alleged that the former governor mishandled security challenges in Southern Kaduna and that some delegates involved in peace efforts were later targeted by attacks.

Lawal said those criticising Musa should focus on the security and social challenges affecting northern Nigeria, particularly the large number of out-of-school children who he warned could become vulnerable to recruitment by insurgents and bandit groups.

An APC chieftain, Khamis Darazo, also said grievances against the El-Rufai administration were not limited to Southern Kaduna but were felt across the state.

Darazo maintained that Musa’s comments should not be interpreted along religious lines, while the Kaduna State Government’s Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Victor Bobai, urged critics to respond to the issues raised with facts and evidence.

Lawal further expressed support for Musa, describing him as a patriotic and highly regarded military officer whose comments should not be distorted.
