Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted mass abduction and rescued nine civilians, including an infant, in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on August 16, 2026, after terrorists reportedly attacked civilians travelling along a local route.
The terrorists, believed to be led by a suspected kingpin, Mallam Shuaibu, reportedly concealed themselves in a millet farm and opened fire on passing vehicles.
Responding to a distress call, troops of Sector 2 engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee into the surrounding forest.
Two women who sustained gunshot wounds during the attack were evacuated and are receiving medical treatment.
The military said preliminary intelligence suggested the attack may have been carried out in retaliation for the recent arrest of suspected collaborators linked to the terrorist network.
The Joint Task Force said it would continue operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements to protect residents and restore peace in the North-West.
