Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said he will not act as a political godfather to his successor, stressing that whoever takes over from him will be accountable to the people of the state.

Makinde stated this on Monday at the Oyo State Hijrah 1448/2026 luncheon held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

The governor said leadership should be based on responsibility and service to the people rather than personal loyalty.

He urged residents to scrutinise the programmes and policies of governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 election and choose leaders capable of promoting development, peace and prosperity.

Makinde also challenged political opponents to present their plans for the state instead of focusing solely on criticising his administration.

He said voters should demand clear programmes and commitments from all candidates before deciding who to support.
