The Department of State Services has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, after clearing him of any involvement in the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State.
Marwana was arrested in connection with the May 15 attack on schools in the area.
A security source said a DSS panel investigated the allegations against the Katsina-born artisan and found no evidence linking him to Ansaru or any terrorist organisation.
The source said the investigation found no evidence of his involvement in the group’s membership, financing, logistics or operations.
Following the investigation, DSS Director-General, Tosin Ajayi, ordered Marwana’s release and approved an initial N3 million compensation to help him meet his immediate needs and restart his livelihood.
Marwana was subsequently released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.
The DSS said the compensation formed part of efforts by its current leadership to support individuals cleared after investigations and facilitate their reintegration into society.
The May 15 attack on schools in Oriire left 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted. Two victims were killed before the remaining captives were rescued on July 10 during a military operation.
Several suspects have since been prosecuted over the attack, with three already sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to terrorism-related charges.
