The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed his commitment to equipping the Nigerian Army Aviation Command (NAAC) with modern platforms to strengthen military operations against terrorism, banditry and other security threats across the country.
Shaibu made the pledge on Tuesday during the inauguration of newly completed residential accommodation for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army Aviation Command at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
Addressing personnel, the Army Chief urged the command to maximise the use of its aviation assets in support of ongoing military operations.
He charged the personnel to intensify efforts in the fight against insecurity, stressing that the command’s air platforms must be effectively deployed to dominate the airspace and deny terrorists and bandits freedom of movement.
Shaibu described air power as a vital component of modern counter-insurgency operations, noting that the Nigerian Army Aviation Command plays a crucial role in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, troop mobility, medical evacuation and precision air strikes.
He said the newly inaugurated accommodation reflects the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel under the “Soldier First” initiative, adding that better living conditions would enhance morale and operational effectiveness.
The Army Chief also commended the Directorate of Procurement for delivering the housing project on schedule, describing the achievement as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing quality infrastructure for its personnel.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Aviation Command, Brig.-Gen. Al-Amin Ibrahim, praised the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, saying the completion of the accommodation project demonstrates the Army’s dedication to building a professional, motivated and welfare-driven force.
He expressed confidence that the improved facilities would further boost the operational readiness and effectiveness of personnel serving in the command.
