The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to take urgent steps to improve the state’s health and education sectors, alleging a decline in service delivery despite increased government revenue.
In a statement issued in Ibadan by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC expressed concern over what it described as deteriorating conditions in critical sectors of the state’s economy.
The party’s reaction follows the circulation of a viral video on social media in which an unidentified man alleged that doctors and other medical personnel were unavailable to attend to his patient at Adeoyo State Hospital in Yemetu, Ibadan.
According to the APC, the incident reflects broader challenges facing the state’s healthcare system.
The opposition party argued that while the Makinde administration has maintained regular payment of salaries and pensions and executed some infrastructure projects, it has fallen short in delivering quality public services.
Sadare alleged that several government officials were not visible in the discharge of their responsibilities and claimed that governance in the state had become overly centralised.
On the health sector, the APC maintained that many public health facilities, including LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Adeoyo State Hospitals in Yemetu and Ring Road, Ibadan, as well as several general hospitals across the state, require significant improvement.
The party also alleged that many public hospitals lack functional diagnostic laboratories and essential medical equipment such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and X-ray machines.
It further criticised what it described as the absence of an official response to concerns raised in the viral video regarding healthcare service delivery.
The APC also raised concerns about conditions in public primary and secondary schools, alleging that many classrooms are in poor condition while teachers face financial pressures arising from deductions from their salaries and allowances.
The party urged the state government to focus on improving public services and addressing the needs of residents, rather than political activities, as Governor Makinde’s administration enters the latter part of its tenure.
