The Edo State Government has warned individuals involved in cult-related activities against organising or participating in any celebrations or unlawful gatherings associated with July 7, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
The warning was issued by the spokesman for the Edo State Security Squad, codenamed *Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultism*, Noah Idemudia, during the parade of two suspects arrested in separate security operations in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, and Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Muhammed Oakumhe and Omukoro Aghogho, were apprehended with two pump-action guns following intelligence-led operations carried out by a security team.
Idemudia said the arrests underscore the government’s determination to clamp down on criminal activities, particularly cultism, kidnapping and the illegal possession of firearms.
He warned that security agencies would not tolerate any activity capable of disrupting public peace or endangering the lives and property of residents.
According to him, anyone planning to engage in unlawful gatherings or criminal activities should immediately abandon such plans, stressing that security operatives have been placed on high alert and will take decisive action against anyone found violating the law.
The security spokesman reiterated that the state government remains committed to ensuring that Edo remains safe for residents, businesses and visitors, adding that intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations have been strengthened across the state.
Idemudia also reminded business owners of the government’s directive requiring the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at commercial premises before the July 31 deadline.
He said enforcement of the directive would commence immediately after the deadline, noting that the initiative is designed to improve surveillance, strengthen crime prevention efforts and assist security agencies in investigating criminal incidents.
The government urged all business owners to comply with the directive, emphasizing that CCTV installations would play a significant role in enhancing public safety and supporting law enforcement agencies in tracking criminal activities.
In addition, Idemudia disclosed that the state’s security committee would collaborate with traditional institutions to profile community youth leaders as part of broader efforts to strengthen grassroots security and improve intelligence gathering across Edo State.
He assured residents that the government would continue to implement proactive security measures aimed at protecting lives and property while ensuring that those involved in criminal activities are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
