The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully airlifted sensitive electoral materials for the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election and a number of senatorial and federal constituency by-elections scheduled for June 20.
The operation, carried out between June 15 and 16, followed a request from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the secure and timely delivery of election materials to designated locations across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the exercise covered the Ekiti governorship election as well as senatorial by-elections in Enugu North, Nasarawa North and Rivers South East Senatorial Districts.
The operation also included the transportation of materials for federal constituency by-elections in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State and the Zuru/Shanga Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.
According to the statement, the NAF deployed its strategic airlift capabilities to move the sensitive materials from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to designated airports in Enugu, Rivers and Kano states, ensuring they arrived within the required timeline.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, commended personnel involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication, describing the successful mission as a demonstration of the Air Force’s commitment to supporting democratic institutions and national development.
He reaffirmed the NAF’s readiness to continue providing timely operational support to civil authorities while maintaining a high level of preparedness to defend the country.
The Air Force noted that the operation reflects its longstanding collaboration with INEC in supporting credible elections through the safe and prompt transportation of sensitive electoral materials.
The Ekiti State governorship election and the scheduled by-elections are expected to hold on June 20 across the affected states.
