Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday hosted a European Union delegation led by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, at his private residence in Ibadan.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between Oyo State and the European Union in the areas of agricultural development, education and the fight against gender-based violence.
Also present at the meeting were the Head of Human Development Section of the European Union in Nigeria, Prof. Leila Mathieu, the governor’s Adviser on Agribusiness and International Cooperation, Debo Akande, and the Executive Assistant on Administration, Revd Idowu Ogedengbe.
Governor Makinde later held a private session with Ambassador Mignot to further discuss areas of mutual interest.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Mignot, who was on his first official visit to Oyo State, said discussions centred on expanding cooperation in agriculture and addressing the challenges posed by climate change to boost the state’s food production capacity.
He said the delegation also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in education and ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence.
According to the ambassador, the European Union remains committed to supporting programmes that prioritise young people and women across its development initiatives.
He added that the EU is particularly interested in strengthening the dairy value chain and partnering with Oyo State to unlock the vast potential of its cocoa sector as part of efforts to promote sustainable agricultural growth and economic development.
