The Oyo State Government on Monday demolished a market located at Mobil, along Ring Road in Ibadan, citing its alleged use as a hideout for criminal activities.
The demolition comes just one week after the government pulled down a three-bedroom bungalow in the Lako community along Aiyegun-Anaye Road, Ibadan, over allegations that it was being used as a hideout by suspected kidnappers.
The demolished bungalow was reportedly linked to the abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her children.
Following the latest demolition, the state government urged landlords, housing agents, and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities within their communities to security agencies.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against criminality and insecurity across the state.
The action comes amid heightened security concerns following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers by suspected bandits in Oriire Local Government Area. One of the abducted teachers was later killed while in captivity, while efforts by security agencies to rescue the remaining victims are ongoing.
The Oyo State Government said it will continue taking decisive measures to dismantle criminal hideouts and strengthen security across the state.
