The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has dismissed reports circulating in some quarters that a winner has already emerged from the party’s governorship primary election conducted on Thursday, insisting that no official result has been released.

The party described the reports as misleading and urged members of the public, party supporters and stakeholders to disregard any unofficial information being circulated regarding the outcome of the exercise.

Reacting to the claims, the spokesman of the party in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare, stated that the process was still ongoing and that only the appropriate party authorities were empowered to announce the authentic outcome of the primary election.

According to him, any report suggesting that a candidate had already secured victory in the contest should be treated as mere speculation until the party officially communicates the result through the recognised channels.

The clarification comes amid heightened political tension and growing interest in the governorship primary, which has attracted significant attention across the state following the participation of several aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the next governorship election.

The APC had earlier screened 11 aspirants ahead of the primary election, setting the stage for a keenly contested exercise among party heavyweights and political loyalists across different zones of the state.

Supporters of the various aspirants had thronged different parts of the state awaiting the outcome of the exercise, while reports and unverified claims about possible winners began circulating on social media shortly after voting commenced.

However, the party maintained that the collation and verification process must be concluded before any official declaration can be made, warning against actions capable of causing confusion or tension within the party.

The APC leadership also appealed to members to remain calm, peaceful and patient while the process is being finalised, stressing that the party remains committed to conducting a credible and transparent primary election.

Political observers in the state have continued to monitor developments closely as expectations remain high over who will eventually emerge as the party’s governorship candidate.

The outcome of the primary is expected to shape the political landscape in Oyo State ahead of the next governorship election, especially as the APC intensifies efforts to reposition itself for a strong contest in the state.
