The Oyo State Police Command has clarified that the students, pupils and teachers abducted during last Friday’s attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area are yet to be rescued.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that the victims had regained freedom.
According to the statement, security agencies are still carrying out intensive operations to secure the safe rescue of the victims and apprehend those behind the attack.
The police urged residents to remain calm, support ongoing security efforts and avoid spreading unverified information, warning that fake news could create panic, heighten tension and distract security personnel from rescue operations.
The Command assured residents that verified updates would be communicated as developments unfold and advised members of the public to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room for authentic information.
Also speaking on the development, Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Security, Abayomi Fagbenro, confirmed that the abducted teachers and students had not been released.
