President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term in office expires on July 31, 2026.

The appointment has generated widespread attention due to Aina’s age and professional background. He is set to turn 40 in July and will become the youngest registrar in the history of the examination body.

Professor Aina studied entirely in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in 2008. He later earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security from Loughborough University in 2009 before completing a PhD in Digital Signal Processing at the same institution.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Aina began his professional career at JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps posting, where he gained early experience in admissions administration and institutional data management.

At 39, he was appointed Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, making him one of the youngest professors in the field in Nigeria.

Beyond academia, Aina has worked as a consultant for several public and private institutions, including the Job Creation Unit in the Office of the Vice President and various state governments. His expertise covers digital transformation, operational reforms, and systems design.

He has also consulted for major examination bodies such as National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, with a focus on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an information technology and engineering project management company with interests in education technology, agriculture, hospitality, and vocational training.

Professor Aina is a member of several professional engineering organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

He has also authored nearly 30 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in the field of engineering and technology.
