The Office of the Special Adviser on Security in Oyo State has urged residents to exercise caution and responsibility when sharing security-related information, stressing the importance of accurate and verified reports.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security, Fatai Owoseni Fagbenro, citizens were encouraged to embrace the principle of “see something, say something” while ensuring that any information passed to authorities is credible and properly confirmed.

According to the statement, spreading unverified reports could disrupt ongoing security operations and create unnecessary panic among residents.

The office also warned against the danger of ignoring suspicious activities or failing to report genuine threats, noting that such actions could delay timely intervention by security agencies.

Residents were therefore advised to remain vigilant, observe their environment carefully, and report only verified concerns to the appropriate authorities in order to prevent avoidable security incidents.

The warning followed a false rumour circulated on Tuesday alleging that bandits had attacked the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and forced the closure of the institution.

Tension has remained high in parts of Ogbomoso following last Friday’s attack on three schools located on the outskirts of the town, where gunmen killed two teachers and abducted several others.

One of the teachers was reportedly shot dead during the attack, while another abducted teacher was allegedly killed by the kidnappers.

Security operatives are currently intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims, including students, children, and teachers still in captivity.
