The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has criticised former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over claims that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, described Fayose’s remarks as misleading, unfounded, and capable of inciting unrest. He warned against politicising traditional institutions, stressing that matters relating to the Olubadan stool follow established procedures that cannot be influenced by political speculation.

Fayose had earlier alleged that the state government was planning to depose the monarch, citing claims of an impending query over the monarch’s absence at a recent coronation event. His comments sparked reactions from stakeholders across the state.

The CCII, however, dismissed the claims, urging the public to disregard them and cautioning against statements that could create tension in Ibadanland. Ajewole emphasised that Ibadan people would not tolerate attempts to destabilise the peace of the city through what he described as reckless political rhetoric.

He further maintained that the Oyo State governor would not take actions capable of undermining the revered traditional institution, while also describing Fayose’s intervention as unnecessary and divisive.

Similarly, a media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, dismissed the allegation, stating there is no rift between the governor and the monarch.

Also, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the government has neither discussed nor considered any plan to remove the monarch.

The CCII reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the unity, stability, and traditional institutions of Ibadanland, urging political figures to avoid statements that could disrupt public peace.
