Top Rank Intellectual Academy, Akobo, Ibadan, has held its Cultural Day celebration to promote cultural awareness and expose students to different traditions, languages, and customs.

The event, which brought together pupils, students, staff, parents, and invited guests, was organised to encourage learners to appreciate and preserve cultural values within and beyond their immediate environment.

Tagged “Ojude Top Rank,” the celebration drew inspiration from the popular Yoruba cultural festival, Ojude Oba, and was recreated within the school environment to reflect the richness and diversity of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

Students appeared in colourful traditional attires representing different ethnic groups across the country and entertained guests with a variety of cultural performances, including dance, music, customs, and artistic displays.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the school, Mr Wole Akinbode, said the occasion was organised to remind students that education goes beyond classroom learning.

He explained that cultural exposure plays an important role in shaping children into responsible and enlightened members of society.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Raji Oyelade, a Professor of Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Ibadan, said cultural events help students develop into well-rounded individuals who are grounded both academically and socially.

According to him, preserving culture remains essential to building identity and strengthening national values among younger generations.

The Local Inspector of Education, Mrs Ademuyiwa, also stressed the importance of culture in promoting identity, unity, and development within communities.

She noted that introducing children to cultural values at an early stage would help them understand their roots and appreciate the heritage of others.

Parents and guests at the event commended the school management for its efforts in promoting cultural awareness and preserving indigenous traditions among students.

The event featured a cultural parade, orchestra, music presentations by the school choir, dance performances, arts displays, and other activities that highlighted Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.

As part of the celebration, the school also launched a cultural gallery within its premises to help preserve and showcase Nigeria’s cultural heritage for future generations.
