The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led heads of security agencies on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State, as part of efforts to restore calm and strengthen peace in the area.
The visit was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, who said the assessment forms part of ongoing measures to address emerging security challenges and entrench lasting peace across the state.
According to the statement, the Army Chief was received on arrival by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, in what was described as a strong demonstration of civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to tackling insecurity.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
The briefing focused on ongoing military operations and other proactive measures being carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies to contain threats, protect lives and property, and stabilise affected communities.
As part of his engagements, the Army Chief also met with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and restoring confidence in the security architecture of the state.
He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and continue to support security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating with ongoing operations and investigations.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also encouraged citizens to go about their lawful activities while remaining security conscious.
The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, commended the COAS for the timely visit, saying the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would help boost public confidence and reinforce trust in the ongoing security response.
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, with authorities intensifying efforts to maintain law and order and prevent further breakdown of peace.
