The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 57,000 personnel across the country ahead of the Easter celebrations to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful holiday period.

The nationwide mobilisation, approved by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives assigned to protect lives, property, and critical national assets.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, who said the deployment covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of proactive efforts to address possible security threats during the festive season.

According to the statement, security presence will be intensified in high-traffic public areas such as churches, shopping malls, motor parks, and recreational centres, with a combination of visible patrols and covert surveillance aimed at preventing criminal activities.

Babawale said the operation was designed to fortify national security during the Easter period and ensure the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

“In anticipation of the upcoming Easter celebrations, the Commandant General of the NSCDC has sanctioned the mobilisation of over 57,000 officers,” he said.

“This massive deployment, which includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives, is designed to fortify national security and guarantee a peaceful holiday period for all citizens.”

He added that Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges have been directed to coordinate comprehensive security operations within their respective jurisdictions.

Babawale said the NSCDC was also working closely with other security agencies to maintain public order throughout the Easter holidays.

“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order,” he said.

He also urged parents and guardians to properly guide their children and wards, warning against any involvement in activities capable of disrupting public peace.

The spokesperson emphasised the importance of heightened vigilance, effective intelligence gathering, and prompt response to public reports, noting that collaboration among security agencies would be key to the success of the operation.

He further disclosed that several specialised units of the corps, including the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad, have been placed on maximum alert to respond swiftly to any threat.

The NSCDC also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest security formation during the Easter period.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
