The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, has celebrated the Easter season with orphans and vulnerable children across the state, distributing food items and cash support to ease the impact of the current economic hardship.

Speaking during the outreach on Tuesday, the First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ajibike Lawal, said the gesture was meant to show love, care and solidarity with children in need, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to their welfare.

She said the children were being remembered and celebrated despite the difficult economic situation, noting that Easter represents love, sacrifice and compassion.

According to her, it was important for vulnerable children to feel valued and included, especially during festive periods when many families and communities come together in celebration.

She also called on individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropists to continue supporting vulnerable members of society, stressing that acts of kindness help build a more compassionate and inclusive society.

She added that children raised in love are more likely to extend that same love to others, while encouraging people to cultivate the habit of giving and sharing with those in need.

Also speaking during the outreach, the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Olufunke Adeniyi-Olajide, described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts by the First Lady to prioritise the welfare of children across the state.

She said such interventions have become a regular part of festive activities to ensure that vulnerable children are not left out of important celebrations.

Adeniyi-Olajide encouraged the children not to allow their present circumstances to define their future, saying they still have the potential to become successful professionals and leaders in society.

She also urged caregivers and support institutions to remain committed to providing the guidance, care and encouragement needed to help the children grow into responsible and fulfilled adults.

The outreach was held across several locations in the state, including orphanages, correctional and disability support centres, as part of a broader effort to reach children in different communities.

In appreciation of the gesture, some of the beneficiary homes commended the First Lady for her commitment to humanitarian service and child welfare, noting that the visit brought joy, hope and a renewed sense of belonging to the children.

They also appealed for continued support and sustained interventions to improve the lives of vulnerable children across the state.
