The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed plans to adopt a consensus approach in selecting its national leadership at its convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, in Abuja.

The disclosure was made by the party’s Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity for the 2026 convention, Mary Ikoku, during an interview on Channels Television.

Ikoku explained that while consensus would be used for national leadership positions at the convention, the party had yet to determine the approach for elective positions during primaries, noting that such decisions often depend on local political dynamics.

She also referenced provisions of the Electoral Act, which recognise direct primaries and consensus as valid methods for candidate selection, adding that compliance requires adequate preparation by political parties.

According to her, parties that fail to plan ahead may struggle to meet the legal and organisational demands of the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the APC has commenced screening of aspirants for positions in its National Working Committee (NWC). Among those seeking key roles are Nentawe Yilwatda (National Chairman) and Ajibola Basiru (National Secretary).

Other party officials aiming to retain their positions include Dayo Israel, Ali Bukar Dalori, Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, Mary Alile Idele and Felix Morka.

The convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership structure ahead of future electoral activities.
