The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Robinson Uche, in connection with the killing of a 42-year-old resident, Shedrack Chukwem, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly acted as part of a group involved in the incident. During interrogation, Uche reportedly confessed to participating in the crime, which occurred on December 17, 2025. According to his statement, he and four others were assigned to bring the victim to the palace of a traditional ruler, identified as Elijah Okere.
The operation, however, did not go as planned. The group reportedly met resistance while attempting to take the victim into custody, leading to a confrontation during which the victim was shot and killed. Following the incident, the suspects allegedly transported the body to a remote bush area, where it was buried in a shallow grave in an attempt to conceal the crime.
After his arrest, Uche guided security operatives to the burial site, enabling the recovery of the victim’s remains. The body has since been deposited at a military hospital mortuary for autopsy as part of ongoing investigations.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the other suspects who remain at large. The police have also indicated that steps are being taken to apprehend the monarch alleged to have been linked to the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice, adding that investigations are still in progress.
