A 74-year-old grandfather’s planned trip to London ended in an arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after anti-narcotic agents discovered a massive stash of cocaine in his luggage. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted the suspect, identified as Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, during the boarding process for British Airways flight BA082 to Heathrow.

Although Emeka claimed he was heading to the United Kingdom for a vacation, a meticulous search of his bags told a different story. Officers uncovered approximately 11 kilograms of cocaine meticulously packaged in blocks. In an effort to bypass airport security and scent-detection, the drugs were wrapped in foil and balloons, then buried deep inside containers of ground dry pepper and other food items.

The NDLEA has taken the septuagenarian into custody, and he is currently being held while officials investigate the broader network behind the shipment. This arrest serves as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics used by trafficking syndicates, who often recruit elderly individuals to evade the suspicion of law enforcement.
