Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly submitted a comprehensive 19-point proposal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as part of ongoing discussions surrounding a potential contract extension.
Chelle, who took charge of the Nigeria national football team in January 2025 on a two-year deal with an optional additional year in the federation’s favour, is said to be seeking improved contractual terms aimed at strengthening his working conditions and enhancing the overall structure of the national team setup.
Central to the proposal is a monthly salary of $130,000, a figure that reportedly covers not only the coach but also his technical staff and personal assistant. Beyond remuneration, the document outlines a range of administrative, logistical, and operational requests designed to create a more professional and efficient environment for managing the senior national team.
Among the key provisions is the request for a private SUV with a chauffeur and dedicated security, reflecting concerns about mobility and personal safety. Chelle is also said to have asked for accommodation in a well-secured environment with uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply, as well as a fully furnished office equipped with a projector for tactical analysis and reliable internet access to support modern coaching demands.
The proposal reportedly includes travel arrangements for his immediate family, with business-class flight tickets requested for the coach and his wife, and economy-class tickets for their two children. Additional logistical requirements include the provision of GPS technology and the supply of training equipment aligned with the technical team’s specifications.
On the sporting side, Chelle is said to be seeking greater autonomy in football matters. One of the clauses reportedly grants him the right to determine international friendly matches based on tactical needs and the profile of opponents. The proposal also emphasizes structured camping programmes to ensure adequate preparation ahead of major competitions.
The coach is further understood to be advocating for a long-term vision that extends beyond the senior team. His conditions reportedly include the initiation of youth development programmes aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s football pipeline. He is said to have requested provisions that would allow him to travel regularly to monitor Nigerian players abroad, as well as attend domestic league matches to scout talents for integration into the senior team and age-grade squads, including the U23, U20, and U17 teams.
A significant aspect of the proposal relates to technical independence. Chelle is reportedly insisting on non-interference in team selection and player call-ups, underscoring the importance of professional autonomy in achieving competitive success. He also seeks formal working contracts for all members of his technical crew, ensuring clarity and stability within the coaching structure.
Financial discipline appears to be another priority in the document. The coach is said to have requested that salaries be paid on or before the 30th of every month, along with bonuses and allowances in accordance with the federation’s established structure. He has also proposed that his personal assistant be included in the bonus and allowance framework.
Additionally, the proposal reportedly calls for monthly meetings involving all national team coaches under the federation. This, it is believed, is intended to foster coordination, share tactical insights, and align development strategies across different age-grade teams.
The reported conditions highlight Chelle’s desire for a more structured and professionally managed environment as he seeks to build a competitive and sustainable national team. Discussions between the coach and the federation are expected to determine whether both parties can reach a mutually agreeable framework for the future of the Super Eagles.
