The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied reports claiming that the Federal Government directed it to halt enforcement of the ban on sachet alcohol.
The agency recently began enforcing regulations prohibiting the production and sale of alcohol packaged in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles nationwide. However, reports circulating on social media alleged that the Federal Government had ordered NAFDAC to suspend its enforcement activities.
In response, NAFDAC described the claims as false and misleading, stating that it had not received any directive from the Federal Government to stop its regulatory actions.
NAFDAC Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed that the agency operates within its legal mandate and in accordance with government policies. She emphasized that no formal instruction had been issued to suspend enforcement related to sachet alcohol products.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring regulatory compliance. It added that any significant changes to its enforcement activities would be officially communicated through authorised government channels.
NAFDAC also urged the public, industry stakeholders, and the media to rely only on verified information from its official platforms and cautioned against spreading unverified reports capable of causing confusion or economic uncertainty.
The agency maintained that it remains committed to safeguarding public health and upholding national regulatory standards.
