Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially ended his four-year stint with South African club Chippa United after requesting to leave the team.
Chippa United confirmed his departure in a statement released on Thursday, revealing that the 29-year-old submitted a formal request to exit despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. The club said it had accepted his request and granted him release.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated, and we wish him success in the next chapter of his career,” the statement read.
The club did not disclose whether the goalkeeper has secured a move to another team or if he will be available as a free agent. Nwabali has also not publicly commented on his next destination.
However, the Nigerian international is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs within the South African Premier Soccer League, as well as teams in Europe and Saudi Arabia, following his impressive performances over the past two seasons.
Nwabali joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and made more than 70 appearances for the club. His leadership qualities earned him the captain’s armband in 2024.
During his time at Chippa United, Nwabali also established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, gaining widespread recognition for his standout performances at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, with attention now focused on his next move.
