Court Nullifies PDP Ibadan Convention

A federal court in Ibadan has declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held on November 15, 2025, in Oyo State invalid.

In its ruling, the court prohibited members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), chaired by Tanimu Turaki, from claiming to be national party officials or holding any official position.

The court confirmed that the Interim Administrative Committee, chaired by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the sole legally recognized leadership of the PDP until a new, valid national convention is convened in accordance with the party statutes.

The court ruled that the invalidated convention was held in violation of applicable guidelines and without due process, rendering all resulting decisions, resolutions, and appointments null and void.

This ruling marks a turning point in the leadership crisis of Nigeria’s largest opposition party. The crisis has led to parallel party conferences, numerous lawsuits, and deep internal divisions within the party structures at the national and regional levels.

Political observers warn that this ruling could further complicate reconciliation efforts within the PDP as the party reorganizes in the run-up to the upcoming elections. There are also concerns that this unresolved leadership conflict could weaken the party’s internal cohesion and its electoral prospects.

At the time of publication, reactions from party leaders and supporters continued to arrive, while the PDP leadership was expected to review the ruling and decide on its next steps, including a possible appeal.
