The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, has denied reports claiming that an accidental discharge involving its State Commander injured five personnel at a training ground in Owo.

Social media reports had alleged that an incident occurred on Monday at the Amotekun New Recruitment Training Ground in Owo, where an accidental discharge from the firearm of the State Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, reportedly left four serving officers and one newly recruited personnel with gunshot injuries.

However, the Amotekun Corps described the claims as false, misleading and a gross distortion of facts.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Corps’ spokesperson, Mr Jimoh Adeniken, the agency stated that the State Commander did not, at any time, accidentally or otherwise discharge a firearm, nor was he involved in any incident that resulted in gunshot injuries.

According to the statement, the Corps conducted a routine range classification exercise on January 26, 2026, as part of the ongoing training programme for newly recruited personnel at the Owo training ground.

Adeniken explained that the exercise was successfully completed without any casualties, adding that no officer or recruit sustained gunshot injuries during the training.

He further described the circulating report as deliberately sensationalised and aimed at undermining the image of the Amotekun Corps and the state’s security framework.

The Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and strict adherence to the rule of law, assuring residents of Ondo State that both personnel and members of the public remain safe.
