The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate allegations of financial inducement leveled against the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin.

The allegation was raised during plenary on Tuesday by a fellow lawmaker, Ibrahim Shittu. Adedoyin, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represents Ogbomoso South constituency, while Shittu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Saki West.

Speaker of the House, Adebowale Ogundoyin, announced that the committee has been given one week to investigate the matter and submit its report.

Adedoyin, while addressing the House, denied the allegation and stated that Shittu had accused him of collecting a bribe from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government to influence an investigation into allegations against the council chairman.

“In that speech, I was falsely accused of offering and receiving bribes from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government to influence or alter the course of an investigation into allegations against him,” Adedoyin said.

The Speaker cautioned lawmakers against making unfounded accusations and stressed the need for due process. He subsequently directed the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges to conduct a thorough investigation into the claim.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions between Shittu and some members of the House, largely drawn from the PDP, following previous disagreements over legislative decisions, including loan approvals for the state government.
