The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, called on the government of Kano State to ensure that anyone convicted of murdering innocent people is sentenced to death.

He made this appeal at a press conference on Monday, January 19, 2026, in response to the brutal murder of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi neighborhood of Kumbotso County the previous weekend.

The Emir warned that impunity for the murderers would only fuel further violence.

He stated, “If someone kills and goes unpunished, the slaughter of innocent people will never end.”

Sanusi also prayed for the souls of the victims and asked God to give their husbands and the entire Muslim community strength to overcome this tragedy.

Furthermore, the Kano State Police Department confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
