Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to his son Abba Abubakar’s joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a personal decision with no consequences for him.
Atiku posted this statement Thursday evening on his verified X account (formerly Twitter).
Abba Abubakar had announced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 during a visit to Senate Vice President Barau Jibrin at the National Assembly.
Atiku responded by stating that individual political decisions are normal in a democratic system, even when they involve close family members.
He reiterated that he does not interfere in matters of conscience, including those of his children, and does not want to impose his political views on anyone.
The former presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emphasized that he remains deeply concerned about the quality of governance in the country and the ongoing challenges facing Nigerians under the APC administration.
He reaffirmed his continued commitment to working with others to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative and to improve economic and social conditions throughout the country.
Atiku added that his primary goal is to restore good governance and create hope and progress for citizens, rather than focusing on the personal political decisions of his family members.
