Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has said his future with Nigeria’s national team will be determined by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), following the team’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Chelle, 48, was appointed by the NFF in January 2025 on a two-year contract, with a clear objective of leading the Super Eagles to the AFCON final. However, Nigeria’s campaign ended at the semi-final stage after a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Morocco at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the match, Chelle expressed his willingness to continue with the team but acknowledged that the final decision rests with the football governing body.

“My future, I don’t know for now. I am the coach of Nigeria at this moment, but it depends on whether the NFF want me to continue or not,” Chelle said.

He added that discussions with the Federation would take place after the tournament concludes.

“The tournament is not over yet. After the AFCON, I will meet with the NFF and we will decide the next step.”

Nigeria’s semi-final performance has drawn mixed reactions, with many praising the team’s resilience while others question whether the coaching setup should be retained ahead of upcoming international competitions.
