The chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, Taiwo Oyedele, announced that his role in Nigeria’s ongoing tax reform process has exposed him to threats to his personal safety.

Oyedele made the remarks Tuesday in Abuja at a symposium on governance held to mark the 50th birthday of the President’s Special Advisor for Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman.

In his address to the participants, Oyedele described tax reform as one of the most challenging and risky areas of governance, noting that reform efforts in entrenched systems often encounter resistance from powerful interest groups.

He explained that the tax reform process in Nigeria is hampered by deeply rooted problems such as low public trust in the government, low tax compliance rates, and an insufficient public understanding of how taxes are used to fund public services.

He explained that Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio remains significantly lower than that of many comparable countries, making comprehensive reform essential.

Oyedele called on Nigerians who support the reform agenda to actively participate in public debates, warning them that silence would open the door to the opposition.

He announced that the federal government enacted the new tax laws on January 1, 2026, and specified that the reforms are based on four key pieces of legislation: the Nigerian Tax Act 2025, the Nigerian Tax Administration Act 2025, the Nigerian Revenue Service Act 2025, and the Joint Fiscal Council Act 2025.

Taiwo Oyedele stated that Rolle’s reform project on federal and fiscal policy has launched Nigeria’s reform project amidst heightened personal security threats.

Oyedele spoke on Tuesday in Abuja at a symposium on governance held to mark the 50th birthday of the President’s Special Advisor for Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman.

In his address, Oyedele described tax reform as one of the most challenging and risky areas of governance, noting that reform efforts in entrenched systems often encounter resistance from influential interest groups.

It is clear that the economic reform process in Nigeria is hampered by a problem arising from the direction of the initiative in the region, the quotas for the initiative, and an uncertain divergence of the initiative, as taxes are used to implement public services.

Oyedele It is evident that Nigeria’s role in managing the Public Investment Budget (PIB) differs significantly from that of the older federal states, and comprehensive reform is possible.

Oyedele, the Nigerian, supports the reform agenda to promote participation, initiate open debate, and warn the federal states about resistance from Turkey.

It is reported that the federal government adopted the new law on kraft paper on January 1, 2026, and endorsed the reform, which was based on the Nigerian Law of 2025, the Nigerian Finance Growth Plan of 2025, and the General Finance Growth Plan of 2025.
