The next Awujale of Ijebuland may be announced within the next 14 days, according to the Olori Ebi of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Jadiara Lateef Owoyemi.
Otunba Owoyemi disclosed this while speaking with journalists after the conclusion of the nomination process for the vacant Awujale stool.
The nomination meeting, which took place at the Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, was attended by representatives of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government, led by its Secretary, Abiodun Oke-Adebanjo, alongside leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
Among those present were the Deputy Olori Ebi, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and the Chairman of the ruling house, Chief Fassy Yusuf.
Owoyemi revealed that although 95 princes and princesses initially indicated interest in the revered stool, only 85 successfully went through the nomination process. He also confirmed that Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM1), was not among those nominated, as his name did not appear on the final list.
He stated that all candidates who participated in the process signed a bond committing themselves to refrain from litigation after the exercise.
“It was a peaceful process. There was no rancour or commotion throughout the exercise,” Owoyemi said. “The next step is for the names of the successful candidates to be forwarded to the Afobaje (kingmakers) for the traditional selection of the next Awujale.”
According to him, the kingmakers will select one candidate from the list of 85, after which the ruling house will forward the chosen name to the Ogun State Government for approval.
“The one the oracle picks will be among those who scaled the nomination process. We pray that God guides the kingmakers to give Ijebu-Ode a king who will make the land greater,” he added.
Chief Fassy Yusuf, in his remarks, thanked God for the peaceful conclusion of the nomination stage, noting that the anxiety and apprehension surrounding the process had now eased.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House expressed hope that the selection by the kingmakers and subsequent approval by the Ogun State Government would align with the yearnings of the ruling house, the ancestors, and divine guidance as revealed through the oracle.
