Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has felicitated Christians in the state and across Nigeria on the celebration of Christmas, urging them to continue to live in love, peace and harmony with one another and their neighbours.
The governor gave the charge in a Christmas message released on Thursday in Ibadan, describing Christmas as a season of love anchored on the birth and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Makinde said the essence of the celebration should be reflected in peaceful coexistence, tolerance and mutual respect among residents, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
He also called on residents to remain security conscious during the festive period, stressing that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility between the government and the people.
The governor urged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies through the Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number, 615, reiterating the importance of vigilance.
According to him, the state government has continued to prioritise security but emphasised that public cooperation remains crucial to sustaining peace.
Makinde wished Christians and all residents of the state a joyful Christmas celebration and prayed that the season would strengthen unity and harmony across Oyo State and the country.
