The Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has charged children across the state to embrace love, kindness, honesty and hard work as essential foundations for a brighter future.

Mrs Makinde described Christmas as a season of reflection, love and giving, rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

She gave the charge in Ibadan during a Christmas party organised for children in the state. The governor’s wife was represented at the event by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Ajibola Lawal.

According to her, Christmas is a special period for coming together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who exemplified compassion, sacrifice and love during His time on earth.

“Christmas is a season of joy, peace and giving, and today, we are here to celebrate that spirit and put smiles on the faces of our children,” she said.

Mrs Makinde reminded the children of their important role in shaping the future of Oyo State and the nation, urging them to uphold positive values.

“You are the leaders of tomorrow. Embrace the values of honesty and hard work, and always strive to be the best version of yourselves,” she added.

She also encouraged the children to cultivate kindness and empathy, stressing that even small acts of love can make a meaningful difference in society.

“Be kind to one another. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can change someone’s life. Extend a helping hand where you can and show love, especially to the less privileged,” she said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, in her welcome address, said the event was designed to bring joy to children during the festive season.

She described children as the pride of Oyo State, noting that their welfare remains a priority for the state government.

“Today is all about celebrating our children. They are the pride of Oyo State and the reason we must continue to invest in a better, safer and more inclusive future,” she said.

Mrs Balogun reaffirmed the commitment of the state government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, to policies and programmes that promote child welfare, protection and holistic development.

She added that the Christmas party also provided an opportunity to spread joy to families across the state.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts to children and prayers for the peace and progress of Oyo State.
