The Senate has confirmed the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, Retired General Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

His confirmation followed a screening session during Wednesday’s plenary, where lawmakers engaged the nominee in an extensive question-and-answer segment.

During the screening, General Musa outlined key security challenges facing the country and discussed the strategic reforms he plans to implement upon assuming office. He emphasized the need for a coordinated national security approach and pledged to strengthen collaboration among the armed forces, security agencies, and civilian authorities.

General Musa also appealed for the cooperation of all Nigerians, particularly state governors and members of the National Assembly, stressing that effective security management requires collective responsibility and sustained support.

After deliberations, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session, announced his confirmation and congratulated him on his appointment.
