The Chairman of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Sheikh Hashim Atere, has announced that the state’s 2026 Hajj contingent will depart from the newly upgraded Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan.

Atere made this known while briefing journalists in Ibadan, noting that Governor Seyi Makinde had confirmed that all facilities required for wide-bodied aircraft operations have been fully installed at the airport.

He recalled that the upgrades enabled the large aircraft that conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to land and take off smoothly during the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, in September.

According to him, officials from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development inspected the facility on two occasions prior to the presidential visit and expressed satisfaction with the level of work done.

“With the work completed and certified, there is no reason our pilgrims cannot take off from Ibadan for the 2026 Hajj,” he said.

Atere also thanked Governor Makinde for his consistent support, noting that the board’s achievements and recognitions in recent years were a result of the governor’s commitment.

He assured intending pilgrims that the 2026 Hajj exercise would surpass previous editions in organisation and comfort.

The chairman, however, urged applicants to meet their financial obligations before the December 5 deadline, stressing that no extension would be granted.
