The Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council are holding an emergency meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna as security concerns continue to escalate across the region.

The closed-door session is chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, who leads the traditional council. Discussions are focused on the rising cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and farmer-herder conflicts, which have resulted in widespread displacement and loss of lives in recent months.

Security challenges in the region have intensified in recent weeks. At least 24 schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi State, though they were later released. In another incident, no fewer than 200 pupils were taken from a Catholic school in Niger State, with about 50 managing to escape and reuniting with their families.

The meeting is expected to produce coordinated strategies aimed at restoring stability and improving security across northern Nigeria.
