The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State has officially fixed December 13, 2025, for its governorship primary election, during which the party will select its flag bearer for the highly anticipated 2026 Osun governorship contest.
According to the state chairman of the party, Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, preparations are already in top gear to ensure that the primary election is transparent, credible, and hitch-free. He explained that the leadership of the NNPP at both the state and national levels has been working diligently to strengthen internal democracy and position the party as a formidable force ahead of the 2026 poll.
Odeyemi expressed optimism about the NNPP’s growing influence in Osun, stating that the party is no longer a minor player but a rising movement that has continued to gain momentum across the 30 local government areas of the state. He revealed that the party currently has no fewer than four governorship aspirants who have formally declared their intention to contest, while several others have also indicated interest in joining the race before the primary election date.
He described the forthcoming gubernatorial election as a new chapter in the political history of Osun State, assuring supporters that the NNPP is well prepared to challenge the dominance of the ruling and opposition parties. According to him, the people of Osun are yearning for a genuine alternative and have started seeing the NNPP as the credible third force capable of rescuing the state from years of political stagnation and unfulfilled promises.
Odeyemi noted that internal crises currently rocking the two major parties in the state — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) — have further boosted the NNPP’s prospects. He claimed that many disenchanted members of both the ruling and opposition camps are already defecting to the NNPP in large numbers, convinced that the party offers a platform for fairness, inclusion, and credible leadership.
“The 2026 gubernatorial election will be different in Osun. We are not just participating to make up the numbers; we are participating to win,” he declared confidently. “Our strength lies in the growing support of the people who are tired of recycled politicians and the unending battles within the old political structures. The NNPP is ready to spring surprises and provide a fresh direction for Osun State.”
He also urged party members and supporters to remain committed and continue sensitising the public about the NNPP’s agenda for economic revival, youth empowerment, and poverty reduction. Odeyemi emphasised that the party’s manifesto is anchored on social welfare, good governance, and community development — principles he said will drive the transformation of the state once the party takes over leadership.
While encouraging members to remain focused, Odeyemi stressed the importance of unity and discipline within the party ranks. He said the NNPP would ensure that its primary election is conducted in a manner that reflects fairness and transparency, adding that whoever emerges as the party’s candidate would be fully supported by all stakeholders to secure victory in the August 8, 2026, governorship election.
He assured that the party has mapped out a robust campaign strategy aimed at reaching every community, ward, and polling unit across the state. The chairman further revealed that consultations are ongoing with grassroots leaders, youth groups, artisans, and professional bodies to build a broad-based coalition capable of delivering victory for the NNPP.
Political activities in Osun are already gathering pace as the 2026 election approaches, with several parties preparing for their internal contests. However, Odeyemi maintained that the NNPP stands out as the people’s choice, describing it as the only party with a clear vision for the future of Osun State.
He concluded by reiterating his confidence that the December 13, 2025, primary election would mark the beginning of a new era for the NNPP, as the party continues to consolidate its growing acceptance among the people of Osun and position itself as a true alternative to the ruling elite.
