The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The application window will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to a statement released by the Fund, the loan application is open to eligible returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions across the country. Fresh students can apply using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number if they have not yet received a Matriculation Number.
NELFUND emphasized the importance of cooperation from tertiary institutions in updating and uploading verified student records—both new and returning—on the Student Verification Portal. This process is crucial to ensure students can successfully apply for and benefit from the loan scheme.
To support applicants awaiting disbursement, the Fund urged institutions to adopt flexible registration and fee payment policies. Institutions are also encouraged to consider temporary registration measures so that no student is denied access to education due to financial challenges.
Students whose academic sessions are yet to begin are advised to formally notify NELFUND, providing their institution’s approved academic calendar to allow for scheduling adjustments.
