The Chinese government has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for the successful rescue of four of its citizens abducted in Kwara State.

The victims — Dansu Zhou, Zhou Hai, Zhou Jia Jun, and Fan Xiu Guo — were freed on Saturday following a coordinated operation by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Army, and the Police.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, gave the commendation during the formal handover of the rescued nationals at the DSS medical facility in Abuja. Represented by the Consul of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Jun, the envoy praised Nigerian security agencies for what he described as a swift and intelligence-driven operation that ensured the safe release of the abducted miners.

“The DSS demonstrated remarkable professionalism and efficiency. Their quick response made it possible for our citizens to be rescued safely,” Wang said.

He also expressed appreciation for the quality of medical care provided to the victims at the DSS facility, noting that it played a key role in their recovery. “We were impressed by the level of attention and facilities available. The care given to our citizens was outstanding,” he added.

Investigations revealed that the four Chinese nationals were ambushed and kidnapped by a gang of armed men while travelling to a mining site in Saminaka village, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Security sources said the rescue mission was part of ongoing nationwide operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing violent crimes such as kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking.

The Chinese government, while thanking Nigerian authorities for their intervention, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on security and protecting its citizens living and working in Nigeria.
