The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the extensive infrastructural developments currently underway in Abuja are a direct fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s directive and vision for transforming the nation’s capital.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the Mohammed Isa Road Extension in the Asokoro District, Wike described himself as an agent of the President, tasked with implementing his clear instructions and vision for the city. He emphasized that these projects are part of a broader plan to ensure that the Federal Capital Territory can compete favorably with other major cities across the globe in terms of infrastructure, livability, and economic opportunities.
“President Tinubu has made it clear that the FCT must be a shining example of progress and development,” Wike said. “We are not undertaking these projects on a whim. We are following a strategic vision to elevate Abuja to the status of a world-class city, and that is what we are committed to achieving.”
He highlighted several ongoing initiatives, including the construction of roads, the development of drainage systems, and the installation of streetlights—key components designed to reshape the urban landscape and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
The minister further explained that these infrastructure projects are also generating significant employment opportunities for the people living in the capital. “Every day, there are new projects launching across the city, creating jobs for our youths and providing much-needed economic stimulus,” Wike noted. “This is not just about roads and buildings; it’s about empowering our citizens and supporting their livelihoods.”
Wike urged residents to take pride in the visible transformation happening around them, stressing that the progress is the result of committed and focused leadership. “The changes you see are not by chance. They are the outcome of a government determined to deliver on its promises and improve the standard of living in Abuja.”
He concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects efficiently, ensuring that the Federal Capital Territory becomes a model city that Nigerians can be proud of.
