The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 20,850 personnel to ensure protection of lives and Critical National Asset and Infrastructure for the Saturday by-elections.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct by-elections across 16 constituencies in 12 states.
This was disclosed in a statement issued Friday in Abuja by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Afolabi.
According to him, the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, while deploying the personnel, said that they were deployed to ensure a hitch-free bye- election in the 16 constituencies across 12 states of the federation.
Audi assured the public of the corps’ readiness to secure election materials, safeguard officials and monitor the whole election process in synergy with the Nigeria Police Force who is the lead agency in election duty operations.
Dr. Audi also directed the 12 state commandants to conduct themselves professionally, uphold the fundamental human rights of citizens, and ensure that the by-elections are peaceful and credible.
He further encouraged eligible voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights by voting for candidates of their choice.
