NIMET ALERTS NIGERIANS TO MENINGITIS OUTBREAK

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued an alert on the outbreak of meningitis in most parts of the country.

In its current bulletin, the agency cautioned the public about the high risk of meningitis outbreak due to atmospheric conditions, especially in the North.

It noted that the most vulnerable groups include the infants, young children, the elderly, those with weak immune system and people with head injuries.

The safety protocols NiMet prescribed are: “Getting vaccinated against meningitis, practicing good hygiene by washing the hands, and regularly avoiding close contact with those infected.”

The agency urged relevant agencies responsible for public health to take note and take preventive actions.
