President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian afrobeat musician, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on last night.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the singer for her unique artistry, which has brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage for the second time.

The President celebrated the rise of a new generation of young and multi-talented Nigerian musical artists who have propelled Afrobeats to international prominence, projecting the country’s reputation.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also congratulated Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her historic win at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

In a statement shared via his official handle, Sanwo-Olu described Tems’ victory as a groundbreaking achievement and a milestone that reflects her exceptional artistry and dedication.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised the significance of the win, noting that it marked Tems as the first Nigerian artist to win in the category.

The governor also lauded other Nigerian artists who received Grammy nominations, including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido.

“I commend our other Nigerian nominees Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido for their outstanding contributions to music. Your artistry continues to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global stage, and we are immensely proud of your accomplishments.”

Tems won the Best African Music Performance award with her hit song “Love Me JeJe.”
