The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has said that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is ready to provide a more conducive environment for other radio stations to emerge, and at the same time, strengthen the already-established ones.
The Minister disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in commemoration of World Radio Day.
Idris noted that the theme for this year’s celebration titled, “Radio: A century informing, entertaining and educating” reflects the remarkable achievements of radio as a means of communication and information for over 100 years, despite the advent of social media.
The Minister added that the government recognizes the diversity of the Nigerian population and acknowledges the power of radio to reach people in their local languages.
Idris, therefore, called for investments in community radio stations, adding that such would undoubtedly strengthen democracy, promote social cohesion, and provide those living in rural areas with access to credible information, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Also in commemoration of World Radio Day, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly has charged radio station owners and practitioners to continue to uphold the pristine ethics of radio broadcasting in relation to news coverage and programmes presentation.
The charge was given in a statement issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Waheed Akintayo .
Ilumoka said radio broadcasting is one of the booming industries Oyo State has, which has made great contributions towards information dissemination in the state.
The statement further commended all stakeholders in the industry for performing their roles excellently well.
