Three suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged killing of a 38-year-old man in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspects — Maureen Okirie, 35; Salia Karikari, 15; and Jubril Karikari, 12 — were apprehended following intelligence reports about suspicious activities in the area.
Operatives arrived at the scene and reportedly caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a bloodied corpse in a shallow grave, believed to be an effort to conceal the crime.
Preliminary findings indicated that the victim sustained a severe head injury, allegedly inflicted with a wooden pestle. Investigations further suggest that the suspects, said to be relatives of the deceased, may have been involved in both the attack and the attempted cover-up.
The suspected weapon has been recovered, while the body has been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities have condemned the incident, describing it as disturbing and inhumane, and assured that those found guilty will face the full weight of the law. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
