The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that alleged an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, describing the claim as entirely false and misleading.

According to the police, no such incident occurred, and the video was deliberately manipulated to create panic and spread fear among residents of the nation’s capital. Preliminary findings showed that the footage used in the clip was sourced from unrelated online materials and presented in a deceptive manner to fabricate a security threat.

Security operatives have since arrested a suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, in connection with the creation and distribution of the video. The arrest followed intelligence gathering and digital forensic investigations which traced the origin and circulation of the content to the suspect.

The police emphasised that while citizens have the right to express themselves freely, such rights do not include spreading false information capable of disrupting public peace or undermining national security. Authorities warned that the deliberate dissemination of misinformation, especially on sensitive security matters, would be treated as a serious offence.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face prosecution after investigations are concluded.

The police also urged members of the public to be cautious and verify information before sharing it, particularly on social media platforms. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring residents that security agencies are actively monitoring digital spaces and will take firm action against individuals found to be spreading false or harmful content.
