Suspected gunmen have attacked a poultry farm in Igushi community, near Akure, the Ondo State capital, killing a woman and her daughter in a violent incident that has left residents in shock.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, also resulted in the abduction of three workers from the farm. According to accounts from the community, the assailants reportedly gained access to the premises by scaling the fence before launching the нападение.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, believed to be about five in number, initially attempted to kidnap workers at the facility. In the process, they shot and killed the female owner of the poultry farm and her daughter. The attackers subsequently fled the scene with three individuals.
Following the incident, security operatives were alerted and quickly mobilised to the area. A coordinated response led to the rescue of two of the abducted victims, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining person and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Authorities have condemned the killings, describing the incident as brutal and unacceptable. They assured residents that security measures have been strengthened in the area to prevent further occurrences and to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies, as investigations continue and a manhunt for the perpetrators intensifies.
